1. Overview
The modify menu is available to Creators and Explorers. Viewers can also interact with these features when they have access to dashboards or stories where the analysis can be zoomed in.
In this menu, you can change calculation types, control the Total type, manage the layout and visibility of items in the analysis table, and set the statistical test options available in Harmoni.
- The options in the modify menu are contextual.
- Actions apply to the entire table by default unless you select a particular column, row, or cell.
- Icons turn orange when the selected analysis options are applied.
- Some icons display an arrow below that can be clicked to open a menu giving further analysis options.
- Some settings can be controlled using personalization keys. Keys that can be applied at the user, site (all users), or company (all users) level. Contact support@infotools.com for more information.
Changes made to analysis settings are retained during your session unless you reset them, end your session, or load an analysis with pre-saved settings.
2. Totals - Analysis Total Options
In the modify menu, you have the option to include the totals in your analysis. Totals are ON by default, and you can click the OFF button to remove them. Use the drop-down menu to select the desired Total Type. There are four different total options: Total, Total (qualified), Total (analysis), and Total (view).
- Harmoni calculates one Total option at a time, but multiple calculation types can be displayed.
- The Total is used as the denominator The number the count is divided by, when calculating a percentage. or base See bases article for more information on changing bases. for the percentage and/or average calculations in the body of the table, unless, different bases have been set on the elements included in the analysis.

3. Format - Calculation Types in an Analysis
The default calculation types of counts, percentages and differences are always available in the format section. Click the More option to access the full range of calculation types.
The following calculation types are available in the modify menu:
| Modify Menu Icon | Description |
|---|---|
DIFF |
Differences |
123 |
Weighted Counts |
% |
Weighted Percentages |
| AVG | Average |
| IND | Index/Indices |
| u123 | Unweighted Counts |
| ∑% | Percentage of Responses or Values |
| ∑ | Sum of Responses or Values |
| u∑ | Unweighted Sum of Responses or Values |
| uB | Unweighted Base |
| B | Weighted Base |
Where available, click the arrow next to the calculation type to open the drop-down menu and access additional options including changing the decimal places.

Add/Replace Switch
In the modify menu, you can use the add/replace switch to change the calculation types in your analysis.

4. Selection - Select and Modify an Analysis
When you make a selection in the analysis, you can rearrange data by ranking it, hiding unnecessary rows or columns, reordering the display, or changing the table layout.
* Selections are contextual. All options will not appear at once.
- Rank allows you to rank your data based on the selected columns and/or rows from highest to lowest or lowest to highest in your analysis. Learn more.
- HIDE allows you to hide specific columns or rows to simplify your analysis. Learn more.
- Reorder lets you shift columns and/or rows in an analysis table view. Learn more.
- Use Expand to access the hierarchical levels within classification variables.
- Use Nest, Group, Grid and Switch to modify the table layout.
- Deselect any columns or rows previously selected
5. Statistical Testing and Settings
Harmoni uses a default confidence level of 95% for calculating significant differences. Significance testing is represented using red and green arrows and multi-reference significant testing by letters.
- The SIG option shows significant differences between data points.
- The M-SIG option compares values across multiple references.
- The MoE option displays the margin of error for your data.
- The LOW option provides low sample size warnings that may affect reliability.
- Input the % in the Level box to adjust the confidence level for tests.
- The REF option allows you to set the reference for significance testing when selecting a column or row for comparison.
6. Data and Display Settings
Data: Percentile coloring
In a cross-tab view, select the Percentile coloring icon under data to show the highs and lows in a visual distribution across the entire table. Using a stepped coloring from green to red, the analysis table is colored to show the quintile distribution within a row.

Suppress
The option to suppress items is available under Suppress in the modify menu. Click the Suppress icon to hide both zero and null values. Use the Suppress drop-down menu to access Suppress Zero and Suppress Null separately.
- Use Suppress Zero when the numerator is zero.
- Use Suppress Null when both the numerator and denominator are zeros.

Layout: Flip
The Flip icon under layout lets you switch the analysis in across and down dimensions. The down becomes the across and the across becomes the down. This works the same as clicking by in the interactive title.
Display: Show Limit Display
Show limit display allows you to control the number of columns and rows that display in the analysis table. This feature is particularly effective when used with Rank.

7. Smart Analysis: Discover
Discover is a tool to profile a target group against a set of descriptor variables. It will show you which of the descriptors best describe your group and compare these with other groups.
- In a table view, select the group you are interested in profiling. To do this, click and highlight an element in either a row or column.
- Selecting will enable the Discover option located under Smart Analysis in the modify menu.

8. Visualize: Data labels
Customize chart labels
When creating an analysis and choosing to visualize, you can customize the chart labels using the modify menu.
- Show hide values from a chart.
- Show only labels for items where there is a significant difference to the reference.
- Show the value gap of items when compared to the reference.
- Optimize the label placement avoiding overlaps that would make labels hard to read.
- Show sample size (see more information below).
- Maximize x-axis labels - ensure all x-axis labels display.

Show sample size on charts
Once your chart is visualized, you can display the sample size within the graph. To do this, click the modify menu and select the show sample size option.
In most cases, the sample size is the unweighted base (n=uB). For analysis where percentages are based on a measure, the sample size is the unweighted count of the total in the item (n=u123)

9. Modify Menu Tips
- When items are selected in the analysis, format menu changes apply only to those items.
- Decimal places are set for each value type
- The Reference row/column/slice is used by three calculation types:
- Significant Difference calculation (SIG)
- Difference calculation (DIFF)
- Index calculation (IND)
- When DIFF is activated it shows the DIFF for all calculation types displayed
- DIFF on % are the percentage point difference (pp), not a proportional change
