The article explains how to use the modify menu in chart visualization to adjust settings such as showing or hiding data labels, displaying sample size, adding margin of error, optimizing label placement, maximizing x-axis labels, and interacting with selected items. These features enhance chart clarity and customization without reverting to the original table.

1. Modify Menu
Visualizing a table automatically opens the visualize menu, giving you the option to adjust the chart type. With the table visualized, you may notice that some adjustments are required. You don't need to revert back to a table, simply click the modify menu and make the changes you need. All the features in the modify menu that are applicable to a chart are available.
In this article, we'll look at the features in the modify menu that are specific to a chart. Please review the Modify Menu article to review all the additional options.
- Create an analysis
- Use the Modify menu to adjust the chart
- Modify labels, totals, calculation types, sig tests, and more
a. Show or Hide Data Labels
After visualizing the data, use the modify menu to access additional features to control the labels you see in the chart. To show or hide labels, significant differences or value gaps, use these icons from the Data section.
| Icon | Name | Description |
| Show/Hide All Data Labels | Click the Show/Hide all data labels icon to show or hide the data labels in your chart. |
|
| Show Only Sig Diff. | To display the statistically significant percentages only, click the Show Only Sig Diff icon. Click again to remove the percentages, showing only the SIG arrows. |
|
| Add Differences to display | You can show value gaps (DIFF) by selecting the Add Differences to display icon. Available for bar, horizontal bar, funnel and pyramid graphs. |
- Create a bar chart
- Open the modify menu
- Use the toggle to show or hide data labels
- When SIG is on, you can display all data labels or only those with significant differences
- With all data labels shown, you can also include difference values
b. Show Sample Size
| Icon | Name | Description |
| Show/Hide Unweighted Sample | Toggle Show/Hide unweighted sample to display the sample size |
The show sample size option can be switched on or off through the modify menu from the Data section.
If your percentages are based on the down dimension, which is the default behavior, the sample size appears in the across legend labels. If you have changed the percentages to be based on the across dimension, the sample size will appear in the graph legend.
For standard axes, the sample size is the unweighted base (n=uB). For analysis where a measure is included, the sample size is the unweighted count of respondents included in the item (n=u123)

c. Optimize Label Placement
| Icon | Name | Description |
| Optimize Label placement | The Optimize label placement option declutters the chart, hiding overlapping labels. |
This option in the modify menu allows optimizing label placement to avoid overlaps that would make labels hard to read. This option is on by default as part of the smart graph settings.
- Harmoni automatically removes overlapping labels
- Turn off the optimize label placement option to show all values
d. Maximize X-Axis Labels
| Icon | Name | Description |
| Maximize x-axis labels | Use Maximize x-axis labels to display all labels in the x-axis |
When visualizing a chart with many items in the x-axis/across dimension, Harmoni does not always display all the labels. The option to hover over a plotted item and display the label and values is available, but you can also force all the x-axis labels to display in the chart. Click the Maximize x-axis labels option in the modify menu to turn on the labels.
If the physical limitations of space for displaying the labels in the chart is reached, Harmoni displays only the first and last of the available labels.
- To show all labels on the x-axis, turn on Maximize x-axis labels
This setting is off by default. If you prefer to see this option automatically on, please contact support@infotools.com.
e. Show Margin of Error (MoE)
The margin of error tells you how many percentage points (or points when viewing averages) your results could differ from the real population value at a specified confidence level.
Margin of error is available for a table and you can also add it to many of the chart types. Click on the MoE button to display it in a chart. It is not available for all chart types.
- Click on MoE to show the margin of error value on the chart

f. Interact with Selected Items
After visualizing the data, you can select an item. When the modify menu opens, there are several options available in the Selection section.
- Rank: Rank the selected item
- REF: Set the item as the reference for statistical testing
- HIDE: Hide the selected item
- DESELECT: Clear the selection
- Select a label to see the Selection options
- Rank, Select as a REF or HIDE an item
- Use DESELECT to clear your selection
The options that appear in the menu are context sensitive. If more than one item is selected, only HIDE and DESELECT are available.
