Harmoni gives you a lot of control to build an analysis the way you want it. Use Reorder to move columns or rows in your analysis table.
In this article
1. Reorder Columns and Rows
Reorder allows you to move selected columns and/or rows to a different position in an analysis table.
After selecting the columns or rows to move, the reorder menu is available in two places:
In the Modify Menu
In the Analysis Table
- The Reorder option appears when you select the column(s) or row(s) you want to move.
- In the modify menu, use the arrow below the icon to access the different reordering options.
- In the table, hovering over the selected item displays the reordering options.
- You also have the option to cut (scissors) and paste your selection(s).
- Paste options are available after cutting and selecting a new position.
- Selecting a column allows you to move that column (vertical).
- Selecting a row allows you to move that row (horizontal).
- If ranking has been applied to a row or column, you cannot reorder in the direction of the ranking, i.e., if you rank a column so the rows are ordered, you cannot move a row item to a different location. You can shift a column to a different location.
Reorder is not available when ranking has been used. If you want to change the order of items you first need to remove the ranking.
2. Reorder Options
Reorder using Move
- When a column or several columns are selected, you can: move to first position, move left, move right, or move to last position.
- When a row or several rows are selected, you can: move to the top, move up, move down or move to the bottom.
You can use the reorder options in the modify menu or the table to shift the columns or rows.
- Select a column or row in the analysis table and reorder it via the Modify menu
- Move the selection up, down, to the top, or to the bottom
- Use the pop-up menu in the analysis table on selected columns or rows to reorder the analysis
Reorder using Cut and Paste
You can select one or more rows or columns and use Cut, then choose where you want to paste them—either before or after a specific row or column. You also have the option to cancel using X.
- Select column or row and click the Cut button
- Select the desired position, then select paste before or paste after
- You can cut and paste multiple rows/column.
Reorder in Bulk
You can select multiple items and reorder them all in one go. Click multiple columns or rows to select them and use the reorder menu to shift position.
When selecting columns or rows that are not sequential, you can shift them one step at a time, or shift them all to the start or end:
- If you move them one step at a time, the position of the selected columns or rows is maintained.
- If you shift non sequential columns or rows to the first or last position, they are placed together.
- Moving multiple selected items one step shifts the selection while preserving the row/column gap
- Moving multiple items to the first or last position keeps them grouped together
Reorder a Nested Analysis
When you have a nested analysis you can reorder elements within each nested item, or shift the nested groups entirely. Moving an element within one nested axis moves the element for all the nested axes.
- Within a nested axis, move one element and the same element in the other nested axes moves to the same position
- Cut and paste an element and the elements in the other nested axes also move to the same position
- Try to paste an element from one nested axis to another and there are no reorder options available
- Select the whole nested axis and shift it to a new position
Reorder Measures
You can reorder individual measures or a selection of measures just as you do with standard axes. If you have standard axes and measures in the same analysis and want some measures above and some below the standard axis, Harmoni creates a new measure group for any measures that are moved.
- Several measures are added to an analysis with standard axes
- The measures are grouped together in a measure group
- Reordering a measure moves it within the measure group
- Reordering the last measure using 'Move to bottom' creates a new measure group below the standard axes
Note: After separating measure groups, you can't move the measure back into the original measure group using reorder.
3. Helpful Tips
- The Selector reflects the order of the items
- The order is retained when saving a view
- The order applies to Excel and PowerPoint exports
- The columns and rows are reordered
- The Selector displays the same order
- The order is saved in a story view
- The order is exported to Excel
