After making your initial selections (either down or across), additional options become available as you drag and drop more variables into your analysis. When you want to add something to your analysis, you can use the Add option.
Add allows you to add single or multiple items exactly where you need them to be in your analysis table.

1. Using Add with one item in a Drop Zone
When an axis is already in the analysis table, there are several ways you can add an axis when you drag in a second axis. You can add new items to the down or across drop zones. When you add additional axes to the across or down dimensions you create a grouped analysis.
In the example below, the down axis is described. Note that the across axis displays the labels First and Last instead of Top and Bottom.
- Drag an axis over and drop it on the word Add. The axis is added to the table in the same position as it appears in the project tree, relative to the other axis in the analysis table. This means the new axis may be positioned above, below or between the two existing axes.
- Drag an axis over and after hovering on the word Add, there are three options:
a. Drop it on the word Top to place the axis above the existing one.
b. Hover over the existing axis name and an orange line appears below it indicating it will drop below this axis.
c. Drop it on the word Bottom to place the axis below the existing one.
The following example demonstrates these options.
Blank Columns when using Add
When you add an axis to an analysis, a space is added between the two axes with the axis name included. This space is added in the across and down dimensions and is the default setting in Harmoni.
A personalization key can be set to change the default so that the space is removed in the across dimension. The blank column remains fixed in the down dimension.
If you prefer to have the axis header nested above the element list, please contact support@infotools.com to have the default setting changed.
2. Using Add with two or more items in a Drop Zone
When two or more axes are dragged into the drop zone they create a group. Once you drag another axis in, you have additional options available.
- Drag an axis over and drop it on the word Add. The axis appears in the table in the same position as it appears in the project tree, relative to the other axes in the analysis table.
- Drag over an axis and hover over Add to reveal the Top and Bottom options, as seen in the section above. You also see the group name, instead of a single axis. You can drop the axis on the group name and, as indicated by the orange line, the axis will drop to the bottom of the group.
- Drag over an axis, hover over Add and then hover over the group name to reveal the axes in the group. Hovering over an axis name displays the orange line below it, indicating where the new axis will be placed. The Top and Bottom options are also available at the individual axis level.
The following example demonstrates these three options.
You can drag more than one axis at a time and all the dragged axes will be added to the analysis
When you drag two or more axes over to the analysis, you will notice the following behaviour:
- When you use the options to place two or more axes in a specific location (Top, Bottom, or using the orange line), they are placed together in whichever location you select.
- If you drop two or more axes onto Add, each axis is positioned as it appears in the project tree, relative to the other axes in the table, so the new axes may not be positioned together.
3. Using Add in a Nested Analysis
When you have a nested analysis, you can control where you add items into each of the nested levels.
In the following example, we have a nested analysis with a single axis in the first level (Travel Style-Grouped) and a demographic group (Age-Grouped and Gender) in the second level of the nest. Dragging an axis, in this case Top 5 Markets, and hovering over Add reveals each level of the nest and the following options are available:
-
Level 1
- Drop the axis onto Top and the new axis is added to the first level of the nest, above Travel Style-Grouped.
- Drop the axis onto Travel Style-Grouped, the first level of the nest, and the new axis is added to the first level of the nest under Travel Style-Grouped, indicated by the orange line.
-
Level 2
- If you drop the axis directly onto Add, the new axis is added to the second level of the nest, and the axis appears in the table in the same position as it appears in the project tree, relative to the other axes in the second level of the nest.
- Drop the axis onto Bottom and the new axis is added to the second level of the nest, below the axes in the second level.
- Drop the axis onto the demographic group name, the second level of the nest, and the new axis is added to the second level of the nest at the bottom of the grouped axes, indicated by the orange line.
- Hovering over the group name reveals the two axes in the second level of the nest. Dropping the dragged axis onto an axis name adds the new axis after it, indicated by the orange line. Top and Bottom options are also available at this level.
