After making your initial selections (either down or across), additional options become available as you drag and drop more variables into your analysis. When you want to change something in your analysis, you can use the Replace option.
Replace allows the flexibility to choose precisely what you want to change in your table. Replace a single item, a single item within a group, or all items at once.

- Using Replace with one item in a Drop Zone
- Using Replace with two or more items in a Drop Zone
- Using Replace in a Nested Analysis
1. Using Replace with one item in a Drop Zone
With one axis already in the drop zone, there are several ways to replace it when you drag a new item into the same drop zone.
- Drag an axis over and drop it on the word Replace to replace the existing axis.
- Drag an axis over and hovering on the word Replace reveals the existing axis name. Drop the new axis here to replace it.
- Drag an axis over and drop it on the word ALL.
The following example demonstrates these three options.
2. Using Replace with two or more items in a Drop Zone
When two or more axes are dragged into the drop zone they create a group. Once you drag another axis in, you have another level of interaction allowing you to replace one or all the axes.
- Drag an axis over and drop it on the word Replace to replace all the axes.
- Drag an axis over and hover over Replace to display the group name. Then hover on the group name to display all the axes in the group. You can drop the axis onto the group name to replace the group, or drop it on an axis name to replace an axis.
- Drag an axis over and drop it on the word ALL to replace all axes. ALL is available at the group and axis levels.
At each level, you can replace all current selections by dropping the axis on either Replace, the group name, or ALL.
The following example demonstrates these three options.
You can drag more than one axis at a time and all the dragged axes will replace an existing axis or group of axes
3. Using Replace in a Nested Analysis
When you have a nested analysis, you can control the items you replace in each of the nested levels.
In the following example, we have a nested analysis with a single axis in the first level (Top 5 Markets) and a demographic group (Age-Grouped and Gender) in the second level of the nest. Dragging an axis and hovering over Replace reveals each level of the nest and the following options are available:
- Level 1: Drop the axis onto Top 5 Markets, the first level of the nest, and it is replaced by the dragged axis, Travel Style-Grouped.
- Level 2: Hovering over the group name reveals the two axes in the second level of the nest. Dropping the dragged axis (Household) onto Gender replaces it with Household. You can replace the whole group in the second level of the nest by dropping an axis onto the group name.
At each level, you can replace the selections by dropping the axis on either Replace or ALL.
