After making your initial selections (either down or across), you have the option to created a nested analysis. By dragging variables and using the Nest option, can create hierarchical levels, nesting as many items or levels as you require. You can nest items into the down and across dimensions,
Nest allows you to nest in single or multiple items, choosing the position within the levels as you create your analysis table.

Nested Analysis
1. Using Nest with one or more items in a Drop Zone
After dragging one or more axes to the drop zone, you can drag an additional axis over and hover over Nest to reveal the options. The options are available in the Down or Across drop zones.
In the example below, the down axis is described. Note that the across axis displays the labels Top and Bottom instead of First and Last.
- Drag an axis over and drop it on the word Nest. The dragged axis is nested as the last level of the nested analysis, in this case the second level.
- Drag an axis over and after hovering on the word Nest, there are three options:
a. Drop it on the word First to nest the dragged axis as the first level of the nested analysis.
b. Drop it on the axis or group name to nest the dragged axis after the axis or group, as indicated by the orange line.
c. Drop it on the word Last, to nest the dragged axis as the last level of the nested analysis.
The following example demonstrates these options.
2. Using Nest with a Nested Analysis
Once you have two levels of nesting in your analysis, you can continue to add more levels of nesting. These examples show how a third level of nesting is added.
- Drag an axis over and drop it on the word Nest. The dragged axis is nested as the last level of the nested analysis, in this case, the third level.
- Drag over another axis and hover over Nest and each level of the nest is revealed. The following options are available:
a. Drop it on the word First to add the dragged axis as the first level of the nested analysis.
b. Hover over the first or second axis/group name and you'll see the orange line underneath it. Dropping the axis here will nest it after the selected axis/group. If you drop it after the first axis/group name, the new axis will be nested between the first and second levels.
c. Drop it on the word Last to nest the dragged axis as the last level of the nested analysis.
Keep an eye on your sample size when using multiple nesting.
Drag more than one axis at one time and you can nest both the axes as a group into the analysis. The two dragged axes are nested at the same level in the analysis.
