Taking control of when the analysis table displays the data can be very useful, especially when building a large analysis. With the Auto Run function, you can decide whether to process the data results automatically, or pause the processing until you're ready. Turning Auto Run off, allows you to build out the table's structure and refine the items you want to see before processing the data.
In this article
1. Auto Run On
With Auto Run on, when you drag and drop an axis into the analysis drop zones, Harmoni automatically processes the data and displays the data results.
2. Auto Run Off
Build your analysis table
Click the Auto Run toggle to turn Auto Run off. Harmoni displays the usual Down, Across, and Discover drop zones, and adds the Filter drop zone, giving you the option to start your analysis with a filter.
As you drag items into your analysis, the labels appear in each drop zone, along with a number indicating the elements for each item. Once an item is included in either the Down or the Across drop zones, the Measure, Weight and Projection drop zones become available.
With Auto Run off, you will see the APPLY/DISCARD options.
- Clicking APPLY processes the data and displays your analysis table.
- Clicking DISCARD, removes the selections you have made since you last processed the data.
When you are ready to run the analysis, click the APPLY button.
- Switch Auto Run off
- Drag the items into the drop zones
- Click the APPLY button to process the data
As you build an analysis table, all the standard options are available as you drag and drop the items. Replace, Add and Nest appear, allowing you to structure the analysis just as you need.
Next to each item in the drop zones is a delete icon, so that you can remove each item individually if required.
If you don't want to continue with the analysis, use the DISCARD button.
- With Auto Run off, as you drag items in, Replace, Add and Nest are available
- Delete items as needed
- DISCARD the analysis if you change your mind
- Click APPLY to process your selections
Show Drop Zones/Show Analysis
With Auto Run off, there are options to toggle between the drop zones and the analysis.
The Show Drop Zones/Show Analysis options display after you have created and processed an analysis. You can create an analysis in two ways:
- Create an analysis with Auto Run off and click the Apply button to process the data
- Create an analysis with Auto Run on (auto process) and then switch Auto Run off
In the top, right corner of the analysis area you will see these options:
| Click the Show Drop Zones button to display the drop zones. | |
| Click the Show Analysis button to display the analysis. |
You can toggle back to the drop zone and make further adjustments to your table, but make sure you click the APPLY button after making changes. If you try to toggle back to the analysis view without processing the changes, Harmoni will ask you if you want to discard the changes.
- With Auto Run off, you can switch between the drop zones or analysis view
- Click Show Drop Zones to view the drop zones
- Click Show Analysis to return to the analysis table
- After editing the drop zone view, if you return to the analysis view without applying the changes, Harmoni asks you to confirm discarding the changes
- Click APPLY to save your changes
Note: If you have a personalization key set to have the Auto Run toggle only apply to the Selector, you will not see the Show Drop Zones/Show Analysis buttons.
Learn more in section 3 about having the Auto Run toggle only apply to the Selector.
Auto Run Off by default
If you prefer, the Auto Run option can be set off by default, please contact Support@infotools.com to learn more.
3. Apply/Discard in the Selector
The APPLY and DISCARD options are also available in the Selector and can be used while you build the table and also after you process the analysis.
Adjust the analysis while building the table
With the Auto Run toggle off, you can build the table structure, and before clicking the APPLY button, you can use the Selector to refine your analysis even further.
Select the items from the interactive title and choose the elements you want to see, then click the APPLY button in the analysis area. Notice how the element count changes as you adjust the number of elements in each axis.
Adjust the analysis after processing the data
After you click the APPLY button in the analysis area to create your analysis, you can then interact with the Selector to make further changes. With the Auto Run toggle off, the Apply or Discard options are available in the Selector once the analysis table has been run. This allows you to make changes to the elements you can see and once you are ready, you can apply the changes all in one go.
If you create a table with Auto Run on, you can toggle it off to access the Apply/Discard options in the Selector
What if I want my analysis to always run/process, but still need control on the Selector?
This behaviour is controlled by a personalization key. If you require this default setting, please contact Support@infotools.com.
In this configuration, the Auto Run toggle is not displayed until an analysis has been created. When you drag an axis into a drop zone, the analysis always processes automatically.
Please note:
- The Show Drop Zones / Show Analysis buttons are not available
- The analysis always process automatically, regardless of whether the Auto Run toggle is on or off
- The Auto Run toggle only controls the apply and discard options for the Selector
Selector behaviour:
- Toggle OFF → Apply and Discard options are available in the Selector
- Toggle ON → Apply and Discard options are not shown, and Selector changes are applied automatically
- The Auto Run toggle is not available
- Drag in an item and the analysis processes
- Switch the Auto Run toggle off and when you drag in another item, the analysis continues to auto process
- With Auto Run off, open the Selector and use APPLY to process the analysis after making changes
- With Auto Run on, open the Selector and any changes are automatically processed
