Creating visually appealing dashboards is essential to engage an audience and deliver insights. To enhance the visualization experience, Creators can associate images or videos with the data in Harmoni Dashboards.

1. Media Asset Sheet
The first step to associate media with items in your project is to create the media asset sheet. The media asset sheet identifies the item labels and the associated images and videos.
To link media to project items, create a Media Asset Sheet as an XLSX file (e.g., Media.xlsx).
The Media Asset Sheet is simply an Excel spreadsheet (.xlsx) with the following columns:
| Label | Image URL | Video URL |
|
Item label in your project |
URL for the associated image | URL for the associated video |
Label
- Name of the item as it appears in the project
- The label is usually associated with an element. It can also be associated with an axis if the view is a grid view and the axis is in a grid (the axis becomes an element of a grid header).
Image URL
- Associated Image URL
- Media URLs must start with HTTPS
- Image URLs must end with these extensions:
png | avif | gif | jpeg | jpg | jfif | pjpeg | pjp | png | svg | webp
Video URL
- Associated Video URL
- Media URLs must start with HTTPS
- Video URLs must either...
- end with: mp4 | mpeg4 | 3gp | webm | ogg | ogv
- or, be an embed-able link from YouTube or Vimeo i.e., starts with https://www.youtube.com/embed/ or https://player.vimeo.com/video/
Create a Media Asset Sheet
- Open a new Excel (.xlsx) spreadsheet
- Create three columns: Label, Image URL, Video URL
- Fill in labels to match item names in the PROJECT with the correct image or video URLs
- Save the file as an .xlsx (e.g., Media.xlsx)
- Alternatively, download the example Media Asset Sheet to get started
Below is an example of the Project Tree items and associated items in the Media Asset Sheet:
Media asset sheet labels must match the project tree labels.
Upload a Media Asset Sheet to your Project
Selecting the 3-dot menu on the project tile gives you the option to upload the media asset sheet.
- In PROJECTS, hover over the 3-dot menu of your project tile
- Click Upload Media Asset Sheet and open the formatted Excel file
- The file is available once the upload is complete
2. Create Story Views to use in your Dashboard
To add media items to your dashboard, you first need to create story views containing the items (i.e., labels) specified in the media sheet.
When showing media in your dashboard, the default is to display the first available item in the view. You can control what is displayed by ranking or re-ordering your table or using the same item as a filter.
- Drag items to the down drop zone for analysis
- Drag the same items to the filter drop zone
- Use Suppress in the modify menu to hide the zero values
- Save to a story
3. Display Media in your Dashboard
Once your story views are ready, you can drag the view into your dashboard* or add using a chart container.
The container initially shows a table view. Switching on the option Display Media under the General settings displays the associated media defined in the Media Asset Sheet. Under Content, the Media URL displays the URL specified in the media asset sheet.
* With your dashboard in edit mode, navigate to the story view, drag it down below the stories curtain, and drop it on the dashboard. Harmoni will automatically create a chart container.
You can then use the filtering system of Harmoni to rotate the image, including analysis filters and global filters.
- In edit mode, add a chart container
- Drag the saved story to the canvas and turn ON Display Media in settings
- Create a selector container and under Titles, disable all options except Filtered by
- After saving, the dashboard displays the flag associated with the filter
As you change the filter for the flag, any charts included in your dashboard are also filtered. The following example shows four chart containers with four different stories and they all share the same filters. We don't need the filtered by label on each chart because we can use the country flag to show which market is the filter. Filtered by is on in the Selector container, although you may prefer to create your own visually appealing filter text, placing the Selector container on top of the flag and making it invisible.
- In edit mode, select each chart container and turn OFF Filtered by under Titles
- Add the selector container, and turn ON Display Media
- Then turn OFF all options under Titles except Filtered by
- After saving, click the Filtered by text below the flag to change the filter
Export to PowerPoint
When exporting an image media container to PowerPoint, the filtered content is included, however the media and video are not supported. In this example, the country flags will not export to the PowerPoint presentation. You will need to manually update the relevant media for your presentation.
4. Media Items in Stories
You can extend the display media functionality in the storytelling area. Dashboard pages can be saved as story views, and you can then interact with media items by using global filters.
In the following example, you can see that the global filters can be used for filtering, instead of using the Selector container. Once saved to a story, you can also use the global filters to change the view within your story.
- A media sheet with matching labels is uploaded to the project
- The dashboard displays relevant media with global filters
- Save the dashboard as a story, the story retains its global filters
