When working with large tables, it can be difficult to find the items you need to focus on. You can manually scroll through the data, but to aid your navigation, Harmoni has a table navigator that allows you to move easily to different parts of the table.

1. Navigating Large Tables
Navigating large data tables can be a significant challenge. As you build a table, you may have multiple levels of nesting and large brand lists that hugely increase the numbers of rows and columns. With most of the table off the screen, it can be difficult to move to the sections of the table you need to access. Luckily, Harmoni simplifies this process with the Table Navigator, allowing you to move quickly around a table without having to scroll through that data.
Virtualization
Harmoni uses virtualization when loading an analysis table. This means the entire table is not loaded and rendered all at once; rather, the focus is on the active virtual set. Not rendering the full table greatly increases the table creation speed, letting you access the data faster. You can navigate around the virtual set using the scroll bars, but as you move to the rest of the table, the Table Navigator is available to move easily around the whole table.
Key Features
Take note of these features when working with large tables:
- Table Size: The cell count lets you know the size of your table.
- Manual Scrolling: Use the side scroll bar for manual navigation.
- Table Navigator: Harmoni automatically displays the table navigator in the top right corner of the table when the analysis table is large. The table navigator is available in standard tables, drill through record level tables and verbatim analysis tables.
- Check the cell count
- Scroll through the table manually
- For large tables, use the Table Navigator
2. Table Navigator Panel
By clicking the Table Navigator label, a drop-down navigator panel appears. The table navigator panel resizes proportionally to your table. It may apply to both dimensions, or it may only be required for one dimension.
Interacting with the Table Navigator
Simply move your cursor over the panel and click on the section to view. The orange cross-hairs allow you to choose precisely in both dimensions where you will move to. Harmoni updates your table view once you make your selection.
- Click the table navigator text to open the drop-down panel
- Select the location you want to browse to
- The table updates to show data based on your selection
Navigation Arrows
Use the arrows in the navigation panel to jump quickly around your table. Click the single arrow to jump to the next section or the double arrows to jump to the furthest point in the table in the direction of the arrow.
If it is not possible to move in a particular direction, the arrows in the related direction are disabled. For example, if you have already moved to the bottom of the table and you can't go any further down the table, you won't see the down arrows.

Move Down |
In this example, only one dimension requires the table navigator. Use the arrows to jump up and down the table.
With additional columns added in the across the dimension, users can use the table navigator to move up and down, as well as to the left and right of the table.
Note: Once you have clicked a single arrow to move to another section, you can't use the scroll bars to move back to the previous section. You need to click the opposite arrow to move back.
Pop-Up Indicators
Both down and across details display in the pop-up upon pausing, identifying the location within the table.
- Move the position in the navigator panel and pause
- A pop-up shows the down and across axis values at the selected position
- Click the location to adjust the table view
Scroll Bars
You can also move through the whole table using the scroll bars. When you scroll to the bottom of the current virtual set, either by using the mouse wheel, or clicking the scroll options, the table will update and reveal the next portion of the table. This is useful if you want to move a short way down or across the table and you retain the ability to scroll back to the previous portion.
