When new updates are added to a tracking project, you'll likely want all your stories with time series data to update. The good news is, Harmoni gives you a choice when creating an analysis. You can create a static, point-in-time analysis, or an analysis that adds the latest time period when a new data update is completed.
In this article
1. Time Series in the Across Dimension
When a whole time axis is dragged and dropped into the across dimension, and the analysis is saved to a story, the next time a data update occurs, your story will automatically add the latest time period.
- In Projects, drag the entire time axis to the drop zone when creating analysis
- Save as a story
- In Stories view, the story displays the current available time from the project
- When new data is added to the project, the story updates automatically
If you want a static report for a fixed time period, drag only the time elements you require, instead of dragging the axis across. As soon as you select specific elements from within the time axis and save to a story, the report remains fixed.
In the example below, the January and February elements are dragged to the analysis and saved to a story. When the project is updated with March data, the story still displays January and February data.
- Drag the time elements to the drop zone
- Save the analysis as a story
- When the data updates, the time period remains unchanged
2. Time Series as a Filter
Include a time period as a filter and you can also have your story update.
When you select the whole time axis as a filter, the last period filter is automatically ticked. When the next data update is completed, the story will also update to show the latest time period in the axis.
- Click the filter label in the interactive title and use the Selector to view the filter
- The Last period filter is listed at the end of all the elements
If you manually select any time period that is not the latest, the Last period filter option is not available. The story will display only the selected time period even when the data updates.
- Create an analysis and drag the time axis to the filter drop zone
- Accessing the filter shows the Last period filter is ticked
- Save to a story
- When new data is added to the project, the story updates with the new data month
