By default, all visible items in the Project Tree are published when the Project Owner clicks Publish. But if you have items that are not ready to be published or items that are for the Project Owner only, you can exclude these items and they will not be available in the public version of the project.
When a user transfers a user created item to the Project Owner, the item is automatically flagged as excluded (EXCL), to ensure the new item is not published without the approval of the Project Owner.

1. Publish
When you create and design a project, all items are automatically published and made available to all users when you click the publish button. There may be times where you need to publish the project, but certain items are not ready for public view, or some are intended solely for the Project Owner's use. Exclude lets you exclude items from being published and also allows you to use them in an analysis, despite not being available to all.
Exclude Items
To exclude items from being published, you can use the exclude option in the design menu.
- Select the item you wish to exclude from publishing.
- Click exclude under publish in the design menu.
- The text EXCL appears next to the item label and elements within an axis.
- Select the items to exclude
- In the design menu, select exclude under publish
- After applying, EXCL appears next to the label
- After publishing the project, only Project Owners can use the item in an analysis
All Project Owners of the project can see and use the items that are excluded from the published version of the project.
Include Items
To include items that are flagged as excluded use the include option in the design menu.
- Select the item you wish to include when publishing.
- Click include under publish in the design menu.
- The text EXCL is removed from the label.
Sharing UCAs
When users create a new item and transfer it to the Project Owner for publishing to all users, they initially appear as excluded in the Project Owner's project tree. This means that newly transferred items won't be accidentally published before they have been checked.
Once the Project Owner is satisfied that the transferred UCA is ready for publishing, they can include it to be published.
By default, items transferred to a Project Owner are excluded
- A user transfers their UCA to the Project Owner for publishing
- The Project Owner selects the excluded item and clicks include from the design menu
Project Tree Filter
When you have excluded items in the project tree, the EXCL project tree filter is available to find only the excluded items. This makes it easy to review only the excluded items in your project tree.
- Select the Display excluded items from publishing filter
- Only the excluded items display
