Creators can create and manage projects and the associated data sources through PROJECTS in the Global menu bar. This article provides steps on how to create a new project in Harmoni, allowing your team to build analyses, stories, or dashboards.

1. Create a New Project (Creator)
Name your Project
1. Click the PROJECTS menu to access the Projects area
2a. If there are no projects, click the New Project tile
2b. When there are existing projects, click the CREATE NEW button at the top right
3. Name your project and click SAVE or press Enter
4. Now you're ready to add the data sources

Upload or Connect to your Data Source
A data sourceA source is a collection of data that is either in an imported file or in a connected data store. Learn more about Data Sources. is fundamental to everything you do in Harmoni.
After the initial step of naming your Harmoni project, you need to connect to or upload a data source. A Harmoni Project can contain multiple sources.
CONNECT
- Click CONNECT to use a direct connection to access a live data source
UPLOAD
- Click UPLOAD to load a data file, e.g., an SPSS file

Managing Data Sources
When uploading data sources, you may need to define sources that do not have a built-in data dictionary, or append data to an existing file, for example, to add weights to the respondent file.

2. Design your Project
Design is the process of turning raw source data into a project styled for analysis. Common tasks are automated when you load data for the first time. From there, you can interact with the project tree and use the design menu to edit, format and construct all the items required for analysis.

Edit Mode
When you first create a project, it automatically loads in edit mode (the pen icon is orange). But when you load the project again, you'll need to click the edit pen to switch on edit mode.
