Stories and Dashboards often need to highlight or visualize a single number. Single number displays are an excellent way to call out a single value. You can add descriptive text, adjust fonts, and select full or half gauges with customizable colors and scales. You can also lock the display to maintain container size for consistent dashboard design across screens.

1. Single Number
Sometimes the best way to show something is also the simplest. A number is exact, easily understood, and can command attention all on its own.
To create a single number display, you must first select the cell you wish to report and then choose Single Number from the Number menu.
Make a single number look good and stand out
Once you have visualized a single number, different formatting options are available to customize the appearance of the single number.
From the formatting menu options, you can...
- Describe the number using text, which can be added as a prefix or suffix
- Adjust the font style and color of either the number or the text
- Set the font size using px or vw of the number or the text
2. Gauges
A gauge is typically used to visualize metrics having a single value.
In the Single Number menu, along with the options to format the single number, the menu provides options to add and display a gauge.
Harmoni allows you to select a full gauge or a half gauge to accompany your single number stories. You also can adjust the color, the background color, and the width of the gauge.
- Choose the type of gauge
- Adjust the gauge color, base color, color transparency, and gauge width
- Fine-tune the gauge scale settings to control the range and divisions displayed on the gauge
Adjusting Gauge Scale Settings
The scale's minimum and maximum values are determined automatically based on the gauge's underlying data.
- For percentages, the scale defaults from 0 to 100
- For numbers, the charted value is always in the middle
In the example above, the value is 8.94. By default, the range is set to half of the gauge, so the scale adjusts automatically to 18.
You can override this by manually setting the gauge scale's minimum and maximum properties, giving you a lot of flexibility on how to display your single numbers in your reports.
You can also add the scale to the chart by turning on the Gauge scale display. Once on, you can change the scale position on the chart.
3. Lock Display
When using single numbers and gauges in dashboards, the lock display option allows holding the size dimensions of the containers. This ensures that when the screen size changes or the scaling of the browser is adjusted, the alignment and overall design aesthetics remain as intended.
Once you are happy with the size and position of the container, use Lock Display Size to enable appropriate scaling.
