Once you have created your global filter spreadsheet, you can upload it to your Harmoni site. The very first spreadsheet on a site must be uploaded from the landing page. Any subsequent replacement spreadsheets can be uploaded after a project is loaded.
This article outlines the process to upload the spreadsheet, but not create it. If you have not created a global filter spreadsheet, please review the Create the Global Filter Spreadsheet article first.

You must have Global Filters enabled to see the Global Filter menu. Contact support@infotools.com to enable Global Filters.
1. Upload the Site Level Spreadsheet
The ability to upload the site level global filter spreadsheet is set by the Upload personalization key. Once enabled, upload your first spreadsheet via the landing page. Then, for all subsequent spreadsheets, you can either load it after a project has been loaded or from the landing page.
The Globe icon next to the Global Filters menu, provides access to the upload and download options.
If you cannot see the Global Filter menu, contact support@infotools.com
Upload a spreadsheet for the first time
If this is the first time a global filter spreadsheet is being loaded to the site, you must do this from the landing page and not the Projects area. Do not load your project first, as you will not see the Globe icon or the Global Filter menu if there is no spreadsheet loaded.
- On the landing page, click the globe icon
- Navigate to your globalfilter.xlsx file and click Open
- Once loaded, click OK.
- Click the globe icon, click upload and select your globalfilter.xlsx file
- Click OK
Once the global filter spreadsheet is loaded, you can load the project and check the filters are working as expected.
Replace an existing global filter spreadsheet
If global filters are already active on the site and a global filter spreadsheet has been loaded, you can also load the project before you load the global filter file.
The loading process is the same as when loading the first spreadsheet. Click the Globe icon and select Upload. When uploading the spreadsheet, Harmoni will ask you to overwrite the existing file. Click OVERWRITE to load the file or click SKIP to cancel this action.
Apply updated global filters
When you add a new global filter category to the spreadsheet and upload it to your Harmoni site, if you have the project loaded, you may not automatically see the new items in the global filter menu. To activate the changes, reload the project.
Incorrect File Name
If you load the spreadsheet with the incorrect file name, the upload fails and Harmoni will let you know that the file name needs to be updated.
2. One Site, One Global Filter File
Before overwriting the global filter spreadsheet on your site, ensure you are not making changes to other's work.
Global Filters Warning
If there are several projects using the global filter spreadsheet, and there are keys set to control the filtering axis and elements for one of the projects, you will see the following warning when opening other projects.
Global filters still work in the other projects, it just means that the default filtering axis and element settings apply to a different project. You can simply turn global filters on, and then you can use any filters applicable to the project.
3. Helpful Tips
- Download the latest Global Filter spreadsheet: Always work on the most recent version of the global filter spreadsheet file. Before making new additions, download the spreadsheet from Harmoni.
- Keep a backup: Each upload overwrites the previous file and there is no automatic rollback for the global filter spreadsheet like there is for projects. Changes take effect immediately across all projects using it.
- Communicating changes with stakeholders: If multiple Project Owners use the Global Filter spreadsheet, ensure you are aware of when they are working on the spreadsheet and don't change items others have added.
- Copy and paste labels to save time: You don't need to type out long lists of labels into your global filter spreadsheet. Find the axis (or axes) and elements you need, create an analysis table and export it to Excel. Then you can copy and paste the labels into your global filter spreadsheet.
- Turn Global Filters off when editing your project: When editing your project, for example, adding new constructions or headings, or adding new data sources, turn global filters off.
